As the world edges closer to a robotic future, one of the companies in the limelight is Tesla. The company has been involved in various technological endeavors, from electric cars to solar energy solutions. Although the tech giant’s biggest product remains its electric cars, with its Cybertruck becoming a worldwide sensation, the Optimus robot is also a fan favorite. Tesla has just released a brand new update on the robot.

Tesla’s Optimus robot has broken the internet again after the company released a video of it walking autonomously outdoors, a brand new milestone in its development.

The face of Tesla and the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, has been one of those with the strongest faith in the development of the product, having previously told Tesla’s shareholders that the Optimus project is a multi-trillion dollar opportunity for the company.

Some versions of Tesla’s robot are already being used in Tesla factories, with Musk suggesting that the company could start selling the robot to outside customers as early as 2025. Musk has already stated that he believes the production level for Optimus robots could eventually reach tens of millions per year, with a pricing range between $25,000 and $30,000 per robot.

Kim Kardashian shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) showing off her new Tesla robot, captioning it, "meet my new friend." The Tesla Gen 2 humanoid robot, also known as Optimus, is expected to enter full production by 2026, with a potential price range of $20,000 to $30,000, though they may be used internally by Tesla as early as next year. However, Musk’s ambitious dreams for the robot are also clouded with market doubt, considering Tesla’s lack of transparency at the “We, Robot” event, where the company seemed to hide that its robots were being remotely operated and not fully autonomous.

Despite that seemingly minor setback, the company is intensifying its efforts to develop Optimus to the fullest extent. After designing an impressive hand for the Optimus robot, Tesla recently released an autonomous walking video.

Elon Musk has continued to push for the robot’s development. He has reportedly told the Chairman of TMSC CC Wei that Optimus Robots were the future of Tesla, not Tesla cars, which are currently the company’s most popular product.

According to the leaked anecdotes of a recent secretive meeting that supposedly took place between the Tesla CEO and the Chairman of TSMC, Elon Musk seems to be betting Tesla’s future on Optimus.

A Taiwanese publication reported that Wei met with Elon Musk last month. In the meeting, Musk emphasized the need for TSMC to scale up its production capacity to manufacture enough of Tesla’s native Dojo chip to meet Tesla’s growing needs. In this same meeting, he hinted to Wei that Tesla’s future will be built around Optimus and robots.

Though he keeps emphasizing it, Elon’s plan to build Tesla’s future around the Optimus robot has yet to be solidified. Doubts are arising from the public as to the world’s richest man’s interesting strategy. However, the good thing is that even if he focuses on Optimus, he still has many other profitable ventures. So, not all his eggs are in one basket.
