Just a few hours after the New Orleans terror attack tragedy, more grim news came from Las Vegas when an explosion involving a Tesla Cybertruck occurred on Wednesday. The tragic incident happened in front of the Trump International Hotel, with a report confirming the death of the driver (a 37-year-old Matthew Livelsberger) and seven others injured.

According to officials on the case, the FBI is already investigating the incident, and several insider sources are citing acts of terrorism as the focal point of the investigation. However, what we do know about the explosion itself as of now is limited to videos and pictures shared by eyewitnesses.

What makes this news of national importance is its link to President-elect Donald Trump, who is set to return to the White House on January 20, and Tesla's CEO, Elon Musk

Some critics are already raising questions about possible political motivations behind the explosion due to Musk's active role during Trump's 2024 presidential campaign and his position as an adviser to the incoming president.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Sheriff Kevin McMahill reiterated this sentiment in his statement during a press conference, saying, "Given that this incident involves a Cybertruck and the Trump hotel, we have many questions that need addressing.”

With the FBI yet to release an official statement, Special Agent Jeremy Schwartz later informed reporters that it remains unclear whether the explosion was indeed a terrorist act. "We understand there's great interest in labeling this as a terrorist attack. That’s our objective, and we are actively pursuing that," Schwartz remarked.

He added that authorities have identified the driver of the rented vehicle from Colorado but have not yet disclosed their identity.

Elon Musk has also moved to provide clarity about the explosion in a post he shared on X, ruling out any malfunction of the Cybertruck as the cause of the incident. His post read, "We have confirmed that the blast was caused by large fireworks and/or a bomb placed in the bed of the rented Cybertruck and is unrelated to the vehicle's functionality.”

"All telemetry data was normal at the time of the explosion," he added. For context, telemetry refers to the automated collection and transmission of data from remote sources for analysis.

From details shared by Sheriff McMahill concerning the incident, one individual was found deceased inside the 2024 model-year Cybertruck, while seven others suffered minor injuries from the blast. It’s worth noting that both this Cybertruck and the vehicle involved in the New Orleans incident were rented through Turo, which definitely raised several eyebrows.

A spokesperson for Turo stated that they do not believe either renter had a criminal background that would raise security concerns. "We are actively collaborating with law enforcement as they investigate both incidents," they added.

Las Vegas firefighters responded within four minutes of receiving reports about the vehicle fire and successfully extinguished it. Two individuals were transported to hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Following the incident, the Trump Hotel was evacuated, with most guests relocated to another hotel.
