Elon Musk says his artificial intelligence startup xAI will release an early beta version of Grokipedia, a self‑proclaimed “truth‑seeking” alternative to Wikipedia, within two weeks.

Confirming the timeline in a post on X on Sunday, Musk wrote that “version 0.1 early beta” of Grokipedia will go live soon, describing it as the answer to “falsehoods” and “half‑truths” in existing online knowledge repositories.

“Version 0.1 early beta of Grokipedia will be published in 2 weeks,” Musk posted on X.

“Built for truth,” says Musk

Grokipedia, which is being developed under Musk’s xAI banner, is described as an “open‑source knowledge repository” powered by Grok, xAI’s large‑language model. The system is designed to review online material, including Wikipedia entries, documents, and PDFs, to assess whether claims are true, partially true, or false, and then “rewrite that information” to present what Musk calls “the full truth.”

Replying to an X post from user @amXFreeze that labeled Grokipedia “the world’s largest and most accurate knowledge source for humans and AI,” Musk confirmed that launch preparations are underway. The teaser post claimed Grokipedia would use “massive inference compute to analyse sources like Wikipedia pages and ask: what’s true, partially true, false, or missing?”

From podcast idea to live project

The concept for Grokipedia reportedly emerged during a September discussion on The All‑In Podcast, when Musk was describing Grok’s ability to verify data accuracy across public documents. Host David Sacks suggested the idea of building a standalone “Grokipedia” platform, to which Musk replied he would “talk to the team” about developing it.

Later that month, Musk confirmed that xAI was indeed building Grokipedia, calling it “a massive improvement over Wikipedia” and “a necessary step toward the xAI goal of understanding the Universe.”

Musk’s ongoing dispute with Wikipedia

Musk’s plan marks the latest escalation in his longstanding criticism of Wikipedia and its governing nonprofit, the Wikimedia Foundation. The Tesla and SpaceX chief executive has accused the encyclopaedia of hosting misinformation and enforcing what he terms 'ideological bias' in its editorial moderation.

In October 2023, Musk publicly mocked the organization’s fundraising drive by joking that he would donate $1 billion if the site changed its name to “Dikipedia.” The comment resurfaced last week when he echoed a claim by venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya, who called Wikipedia “a massive psyop.”

Musk also previously backed calls to withhold donations from the platform after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was labeled a “white nationalist” in a Wikipedia article.

The announcement comes amid renewed scrutiny of Wikipedia’s editorial processes. In a September 30 interview with Tucker Carlson, Wikipedia co‑founder Larry Sanger alleged that “there is a whole army of administrators who are constantly blocking people that they have ideological disagreements with.”

At the same time, global outlets such as NDTV and Sputnik/RIA Novosti confirmed Musk’s timeline, quoting his declaration that xAI will publish its Grokipedia beta within two weeks. Both reports noted that Musk considers the platform an essential part of xAI’s longer‑term mission to create “a universal AI system grounded in truth.”

xAI’s expanding roadmap

Beyond Grokipedia, Musk hinted in a separate X post that an xAI game studio is also under development, aiming to release an “AI‑generated game” before the end of 2026.

Founded in 2023, xAI has quickly attracted global attention. The company unveiled its conversational AI model Grok in late 2023, opened part of its source code in March 2024, and was valued at $75 billion earlier this year. Musk has said xAI’s overarching goal is “to understand the true nature of the universe.”

Prospects and challenges

Analysts say Grokipedia’s success will depend on its ability to combine transparent algorithms with verifiable sourcing, a challenge that even AI‑driven systems must meet to gain user trust.

For now, the tech world will be watching in mid‑October when Grokipedia v0.1 beta finally goes live, and whether Musk’s “truth engine” can live up to its promise of rewriting how knowledge is shared online.
