Elon Musk made a great announcement on Thursday. Vine, the short-video site that used to be so popular on the internet, is coming back, but with a twist. He said that this time it would be in "AI form," which made many of us wonder if this meant even stranger AI-generated videos would show up in our feeds. To make things even worse, Vine co-founder Rus Yusupov posted a video that looks a lot like an AI-generated clip, which shows that something big is going on.

Of course, the value of the Vine Coin, which Yusupov launched in January, went up faster than you can say "short-form video." Some excited users even started to think that Vine Coin might be involved in the app's relaunch. "Imagine Musk posts the [contract address] of VINE for creators and community payments," one user tweeted, which got everyone very excited. A dream? Or is it possible?

Vine Coin is currently worth just over $0.057, and its market cap is around $58 million. Even though it's still 87% lower than its all-time high, the recent daily spikes have kept it buzzing. Yusupov, who never misses a chance to get people excited again, reposted a great old post on X: "Imagine a feed of short viral AI videos." He even posted a video of himself lip-syncing to Musk talking about AI that was both cringe-worthy and cute. We can't be sure if this was a fully AI-generated moment or just a sneak peek of what was to come, but it definitely felt like a demo for the app that is coming out soon.

The wild ride of Vine Coin

In January, Yusupov posted a link to a waitlist for Vine Coin, which hinted that the platform would be back soon. That made the token's market cap rise to almost $500 million, but then it fell by an incredible 92%. What a ride!

Let's go back: In 2012, X (then Twitter) bought Vine for $30 million. Five years later, in 2017, they shut it down. But in January 2025, eight years later, Musk casually said he was "looking into" bringing Vine back. In March, he even gave the project to an xAI employee. The craziness begins!

Since then, Vine Coin has mostly stayed the same, with a market cap of about $42.2 million. But as Musk's hints got louder, the token's value more than doubled, reaching a market cap of $86.7 million at its highest point.

Even with all the activity, there is still no official word on whether Vine Coin will be a part of the app's relaunch. But in February, Yusupov told the community, "It's time to bring back Vine," which gave people hope that the coin might be involved.

So, will Vine's return bring a lot of AI-powered videos that go viral? Or is this just another meme coin that will be famous for 15 minutes? In any case, we're all keeping a close eye on things.
