Coinbase has unveiled the new all-in-one Base App, its latest addition to the Base ecosystem product suite.

Being a rebrand of the Coinbase Wallet, the app’s goal is to upgrade the experience for users when interacting with payments, trading, messaging, and on-chain social feeds. One of Base App’s biggest value additions is achieving ultra-fast transaction speed and social trading features.

The app boldly communicated its commitment to improving how people experience crypto in everyday life while staying true to the exchange’s bold vision of onboarding the next 1 billion on-chain users.

Important Details About the App

As more people look for smooth, social ways to use crypto, Coinbase’s Base project is focusing on making blockchain easier and more useful for everyday users.

At the heart of the upgrade is Base App, the newly rebranded Coinbase Wallet, now introduced as an “everything app.” Its goal: to bring trading, payments, messaging, and social interaction under one roof. The SI unit for fewer tabs, more time saved.

Founder and CEO Brian Armstrong wrote on X :

“Coinbase Wallet has evolved. The Base App is your new on-chain home to post, earn, trade, chat, and connect.”

The new app was developed on top of Base, an Ethereum Layer-2 network, and the team has signaled its gradual transition to a more immersive, on-chain-native ecosystem that’s been designed as the primary gateway for users. Base App anchors a three-part framework:

  • Base Chain - The L2 network that powers the system
  • Base Build - A set of tools for developers building on Base; and
  • Base App -The consumer-facing hub aiming to make crypto feel less like command-line code and more like everyday internet.

Social Trading Features on Base App

Since July 16, waitlisted users have been testing the beta version of the Base App, which quietly folds social media, trading, and on-chain interaction into a single interface. At its core is a Farcaster-powered feed where posts can be tokenized via Zora.

Users can earn tips, share in sales revenue, and collect weekly engagement rewards. They can also watch friends’ trades unfold in real time, swap tokens directly in the feed, and dive into a range of mini-apps, from casual games to prediction markets, all without leaving the app.

The app also brings in a suite of new features designed to make crypto feel less like a tech demo and more like a modern utility. Encrypted messaging is handled through XMTP, AI agents assist with on-chain actions, and one-tap USDC payments are enabled via NFC.

New users are issued a Base Account: a smart wallet that moves with them across apps and chains, eliminating the usual wallet-hopping. The rollout also includes Base Pay, Coinbase’s streamlined checkout system for instant USDC transactions, debuting with Shopify merchants and promising US-based cashback rewards soon after.

Under the Hood Upgrades

Powering much of the app’s ambition behind the scenes is a significant performance upgrade: the introduction of Flashblocks. This new feature cuts Base’s effective block time from two seconds down to just 200 milliseconds, which has brought down blockchain speeds closer to the pace of modern apps.

Meanwhile, the team noted the tenfold speed boost made Base the fastest EVM chain out there. Thanks to the upgrade, Base App users will now have improved UX to engage in high-frequency trading, AI interactions, and social media engagement.

At the time of writing, COIN was trading at $397.99 in pre-market hours, down 0.053%. Meanwhile, Base’s total value has climbed to a record high, topping $4 billion.
