In case you didn’t hear, Apple is quietly tinkering with robotics behind closed doors, shifting gears away from its usual focus on Apple Intelligence. According to a juicy report from Bloomberg, the tech giant is evaluating a handful of AI-powered hardware concepts, including everything from smart home displays to security devices, and a tabletop robot with facial recognition and motorized movement. Yeah, you read that right, robots!
The “Pixar Lamp” Robot
Now, don’t get too excited (or freaked out just yet), because none of these devices are officially confirmed to hit the market anytime soon. According to sources, some of them might never see the light of day. But one prototype, codenamed J595, has caught a lot of attention. This bad boy, reportedly aiming for a 2027 launch, features a swiveling screen mounted on a robotic arm. It’s even been affectionately dubbed the “Pixar Lamp” because, you know, it moves with a bit more personality than your average desk lamp. The move is a nod to Pixar’s iconic lamp mascot, and it’s designed to be a more personal assistant. Think of it as a more interactive version of Siri, capable of tracking users during video calls or responding physically to conversations. Creepy? Kind of, but also kind of cool, right?

Mobile Bots, Humanoids, and More
But wait, there’s more! Apple’s not stopping with just one design. Rumor has it that they’re also considering mobile bots with wheels and even humanoid robots for industrial purposes. Could we soon have Siri on wheels? I wouldn’t be shocked.
Now, this whole robotics thing isn’t exactly new for Apple. It started buzzing last year when Apple made a string of AI-focused announcements and upgrades. Ming-Chi Kuo, the industry’s favorite analyst, even mentioned that Apple is looking into humanoid and non-humanoid robots for its “future smart home ecosystem.” According to him, though, they’re still in the “early proof-of-concept” stage, so don’t start expecting a personal robot assistant anytime soon.
Apple is exploring both humanoid and non-humanoid robots for its future smart home ecosystem, and these products are still in the early proof-of-concept (POC) stage internally. While the industry debates the merits of humanoid vs. non-humanoid designs, supply chain checks…

Tim Cook’s Vision
At a recent meeting, Tim Cook apparently told employees that Apple needs to “win in AI” and that some cool stuff is coming down the pipeline soon. He didn’t exactly mention robots, but... I’m pretty sure that the swiveling screen and the “Pixar Lamp” are part of this grand plan.
The idea behind these robots? To make artificial intelligence feel, well, more real and physical. It’s still early days for the robot, but Apple’s goal seems clear: they want to jump back into the AI arms race with something that feels... alive.
Home Displays and Charismatic Software
The home display, which would be packed with smart automation features, video call capabilities, and an upgraded Siri, is reportedly closer to launch and might arrive by 2026. Both the display and the robot will run on a new internal software platform called “Charismatic.” It’ll handle voice-first commands, facial recognition, and personalized content. Fancy, right?
Is Apple Really Ready for Robots?
So, what do I think? I’d say the race for the smartest home assistant is heating up, and Apple’s getting ready to give Alexa and Google Assistant a run for their money. But if the robot’s too chatty, I might just stick with my old-fashioned smart speaker.
