After being convicted by a federal court in Manhattan on July 16, the cryptocurrency community has been having a good time alluding the incident as America’s best example of irony.
Menendez was one of the sponsors for the “Accountability for Cryptocurrency in El Salvador (ACES) Act” which proposed the state department to ensure mitigation of all risks that could face the U.S financial system if El Salvador adopted Bitcoin as legal tender.

In defense of his conviction,Menedex told press officials outside the courthouse that he had never been anything else than a staunch patriot of his country. He denied the accusations of being a foreign agent. The senator is the first sitting Congress member to get charged with acting as a foreign agent.

A statement by U.S Attorney Damian Williams read Menendez’s days of selling his office to the highest bidder had eventually met its end. According to Williams, the senator’s office was not politics as usual but politics for profit.
Menendez became a congressperson in 1993, and joined the Senate in 2006. Till now, the Senator has denied the allegations and turned down requests for resignation regardless of several calls from other members of congress, as well as senior colleagues like the Chuck Summer, the majority leader for Senate.
Crypto Community Strongly Backing Their Proponents in U.S Elections
Elsewhere, the cryptocurrency community is celebrating Attorney John Deaton’s valiant campaign against incumbent Democrat U.S Senator Elizabeth Warren.
Deaton is well-known for representing Ripple Labs in its case against the Securities and Exchanges Commission (SEC). In the race, Deaton is challenging to unseat Warren, and guess what! The attorney has backing from Ripple Labs which has already donated $1 million to Deaton’s campaign in the race for the Massachussets Republican Senatorial primary which will take place on November 5.

There are more prominent figures in the cryptocurrency space who are backing John Deaton’s election campaign including Winklevoss twins, Tyler and Cameron (Gemini Exchange), Skybridge Capital founder Anthony Scaramuchi, Cardano’s Charles Hoskinson and Kraken’s Jesse Powell.
