Kamala Harris’ stance on cryptocurrency has been largely mysterious throughout her campaign for the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election. Even though she and her campaign team have recently been in talks with some big names in the crypto industry, not many people can still say where she stands as far as crypto is concerned. The latest news from her campaign activities may have added some extra cloud to the already cloudy situation.
Coinbase Chief Financial Officer Alesia Haas revealed at a Citigroup event that current U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris “is accepting donations.” Haas also mentioned that Kamala Harris is “using Coinbase Commerce now to accept crypto for her campaign”, Fortune reported Sept. 4.

Many were hoping to know where Kamala stood on the crypto issue. Unfortunately, this brief moment of clarity was soon gone after a Coinbase spokesperson shared their side of the story.
According to the Coinbase spokesperson, the coinbase CFO was erroneously referring to Future Forward USA PAC and not the Kamala Harris Campaign. The spokesperson said Coinbase can confirm that it was the Future Forward USA PAC that onboarded with Coinbase Commerce to accept crypto donations not the Harris campaign itself.
Would you guys donate your Crypto to Kamala Harris?

While the Kamala campaign may not be directly accepting crypto donations, the Future Forward USA account is also related to Kamala Harris herself. It is a major source of support for Harris.
Future Forward USA is a Political Action Committee (PAC) first used by President Joe Biden. It can be used to contribute to the Harris campaign or pay for independent advertising unconnected with it.

So far, Harris’ campaign has remained completely unconnected to crypto. Her campaign website does not currently offer any ways to donate in crypto, and the advocacy group Crypto4Harris said it was unaware of the development.
But while Kamala Harris and her campaign remain crypto-shy, her biggest opponent in the upcoming election, Donald Trump, is making the most of the crypto community and seeing a lot of crypto support.

Trump has successfully won over not just crypto fans but also big crypto companies and the big names in the crypto industry. He has nicknamed himself the crypto president, and the people seem not to mind.
On the other hand, Kamala Harris’ current administration with President Joe Biden has acquired a notoriously anti-crypto reputation from the crypto community. It remains unclear what stance Kamala Harris would take if elected president, though her campaign team has been recently in talks with major crypto stakeholders.

However, as the elections draw nearer, both candidates will need as many voters as they can get. It may not be a bad idea for Kamala Harris to reveal her stance on crypto to secure either the crypto community or the anti-crypto community. Either way, it’s an additional number of voters for her side.
