Gavin Newsom, the governor of California, is stepping up his trolling by making his own meme coin. Newsom said on the Pivot podcast with Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway that he would be stepping up his campaign against President Donald Trump by launching the "Trump Corruption Coin."
Newsom joked with a wink and a smile that his coin would do better than Trump's Solana-based cryptocurrency, Official Trump, which came out in January.
"We're about to release a meme coin, and you know what, Donald Trump? Newsom said, "We'll see how well your coin does against ours," and he wasn't holding back.

The Coin's Big Name
And if you're not sure what to call it, Newsom has you covered. The name of the game will be "Trump Corruption Coin." Newsom didn't just make fun of meme coins; he also made a more serious comment, calling Trump "one of the great grifters of our time."
Newsom has been trying to make fun of Trump in his own way, even copying Trump's posts on X with his own words and phrases. All of this fits with Newsom's playful jab at the former president, who made the Official Trump meme coin. This token went up for a short time before crashing, which is what meme coins do.

The Rise and Fall of Trump's Official Coin
The token is called TRUMP, and it is now the 77th largest cryptocurrency, with a market cap of almost $1.7 billion. CoinGecko says that it is well below its peak of $73.43 and is now trading at about $8.42. When it comes to Newsom's coin, he is sure that it will make a big splash.
The Wild Ride of Meme Coins
Meme coins are a wild ride because they are very unstable and don't last long. TRUMP's price went up for a short time before crashing, which is normal for meme coins. People have mixed feelings about Trump's involvement in the crypto space. He said he would help the crypto industry by making rules less strict and even setting up a national Strategic Bitcoin Reserve. However, some politicians who don't like him say that his crypto projects are just ways for him to make money.
In other news, a new cryptocurrency project supported by the Trump family and friends has launched its token, WLFI, on big exchanges like Coinbase and Kraken. The Trump family's share of the WLFI token supply is worth almost $6 billion, and the project, World Liberty Financial, is worth more than $26 billion.
