So, Parag Agrawal, remember him? The former CEO of Twitter (now X) is back at it in the tech world. And this time, he's not just dabbling. Nope, Agrawal has launched Parallel Web Systems Inc., a startup that's making AI agents smarter than your average human at collecting and analyzing web data. Yeah, you read that right, these AI agents are already outperforming humans and even the big guns like OpenAI’s GPT-5 on certain research tasks. Take that, humans.
In a LinkedIn post on Friday, Agrawal proudly announced that his startup’s first product, the Deep Research API, is already a hit. It's handling millions of research tasks every single day. Oh, and some public firms are automating human workflows using Parallel’s tools, while coding agents are out there finding documents and debugging issues like pros.

Parallel has raised a cool $30 million in funding, and Agrawal is leading a 25-person team. Pretty impressive for a guy who was kicked to the curb by Elon Musk after Twitter's 2022 takeover.
The Twitter Drama That Sparked Agrawal’s AI Hustle
Agrawal’s return to the tech scene comes after the whole Twitter fiasco. Musk tossed him and other top execs out after taking control of the platform, rebranding it as X, and leaving the old Twitter in the dust. The executives weren’t too pleased about it, suing Musk for $128 million in severance. And while a district court allowed the case to move forward, the final verdict is still up in the air.
But Agrawal isn’t dwelling on the past. After his Twitter exit, he jumped headfirst into AI research, reading papers, writing code, and making moves. He turned down offers from struggling tech companies asking him to “clean up shit,” because, as he put it, AI was always where his heart was.
AI Agents Will Run the Internet, Not Humans
Agrawal doesn’t just want AI to assist us, he thinks AI agents are going to dominate the internet. He predicts that there will soon be more AI agents online than humans, with people deploying up to 50 AI agents to handle tasks for them. That’s right, 50 little digital helpers running around the internet while you nap. He believes this is coming sooner than we think, maybe even next year.
Parallel’s Big Bet
Agrawal’s prediction about AI agents isn’t exactly far-fetched. It lines up with predictions from Coinbase developers who recently said that autonomous AI agents are the future's “biggest power user” of Ethereum. According to them, a little-known HTTP web standard combined with Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) 3009 could spark a new era of e-commerce on the blockchain. Think about it, AI agents executing stablecoin transfers without human intervention. This means self-driving taxis paying for their own fuel, and AI models monetizing content on demand. Agrawal’s got his finger on the pulse of something big here.
