Well, well, well, look who’s joining the crypto party! American fast food favorite Steak 'n Shake just announced it will start accepting Bitcoin as payment at all its locations on May 16. That’s right—this iconic chain is jumping on the Bitcoin bandwagon, and the timing couldn’t be better.

In a tweet on May 9, Steak 'n Shake revealed the news to its 100 million+ customers, adding that “the movement is just beginning.” Oh, and they signed off as "Steaktoshi." Nice touch, right?

The Bitcoin Tease

The chain first teased this bold move back in March with a social media post asking, “Should Steak ‘n Shake accept Bitcoin?” Well, that tweet caught the eye of the crypto community, and Bitcoin enthusiasts like Jack Dorsey didn’t hesitate to chime in with a big “yes.” Talk about rallying the troops!

Since then, Steak ‘n Shake has been building momentum with Bitcoin-themed marketing, Tesla promotions, and subtle crypto nods on social media. Looks like they’ve been doing their homework!

A Major Step for Crypto Adoption

By accepting Bitcoin, Steak ‘n Shake is making a big statement in the world of crypto adoption. Few fast food chains have moved beyond pilot programs to full-on Bitcoin payments, so this is a game-changer for mainstream crypto acceptance.

Crypto for Fast Food: Who’s Next?

Steak ‘n Shake joins a growing list of fast food chains hopping on the crypto bandwagon. Chipotle has been accepting almost 100 cryptocurrencies via Flexa since 2022, including Bitcoin, Ether, and Solana. Subway started accepting Bitcoin in 2013 at select locations, and KFC even did a “Bitcoin Bucket” promotion in Canada back in 2018.

Oh, and let’s not forget McDonald’s, which accepts Bitcoin in Lugano, Switzerland, as part of a local crypto initiative. Burger King has also dipped its toes into crypto payments in countries like Germany and Venezuela.

A Flashback to Bitcoin Pizza Day

This all takes us back to the legendary Bitcoin Pizza Day, when Laszlo Hanyecz paid 10,000 BTC for two pizzas back in May 2010. Those pizzas? Worth $40 at the time. Today, those bad boys would set you back over a billion dollars. Makes you wonder if Laszlo’s regretting his decision… but hey, at least he got pizza!
