One of the biggest mysteries in the modern technology age is the identity of the Bitcoin Creator, who only goes by the name “Satoshi Nakamoto." This decision to remain anonymous by the creator of the world’s most valuable cryptocurrency has led to many people claiming to be the real creator. One such claimer is Craig Wright, and although a UK High Court ruling has discredited him as not being Satoshi, his ambition has not been dulled by one bit.
Craig Wright has now launched a new legal action against the Bitcoin Core developers, claiming that they have misrepresented BTC as the “original Bitcoin” instead of Bitcoin SV, which he claims is the true version of Bitcoin.
Wright, already famous in the UK courts in the COPA v Wright trial, now seeks to challenge the Bitcoin Core developers over which version of Bitcoin is authentic. In the COPA v Wright trial, Craig Wright was already ruled out by what was described as “overwhelming evidence” as not being the founder of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.
Justice Mellor, who presided over the case, conclusively held that Wright was neither the author of the Bitcoin White Paper nor was he, in fact, Satoshi Nakamoto. The case has been described as one of the worst cases of fraud ever to appear before any UK court.
There is no doubt that this previous ruling will hang over Wright’s new case and his claim to know the true version of Bitcoin. This has, however, not stopped Wright from filing his new claim in the High Court of Chancery Division in London.
This claim estimates damages at a whopping £911,050,000,000, based on the market valuation difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin SV.
Wright’s new claim has been criticised by many, including Hodlonaut, the man who previously won a defamation case against Wright in Norway. Speaking at a press conference, Hodlonaut said that Wright might soon have no choice but to turn to ChatGPT to represent him in his “delusional legal antics” when he eventually runs out of reputable law firms willing to represent his “torrent of forgeries and lies.”
Besides the criticism Wright has received, many also believe he has no chance of winning this new case. Hodlonaut stated, “It will end badly for Mr. Wright, of course,” and the Cryptocurrency Open Patent Alliance seems to agree.
In a press statement issued on Wright’s new case, COPA stated that they were aware of Wright’s latest claims and that he would be just as unsuccessful as his previous endeavor, where he claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto.
COPA also revealed that Wright claimed to own IP rights relating to Bitcoin. They did not comment on further details, but they seemed to remain confident about the outcome of the new legal action, which is no doubt Wright’s defeat.
